OK - Obligatory Introductory Post here. Lots of back story, blah blah blah. If you're interested at all in following my journey to GOAL through WW, please read on and you'll see how I got to the point I am at now.
If you know me, you know I am a highly competitive person. I like to win prizes. I like to win awards. I like to be the best. I know, it's not the most attractive quality in the world, but it does drive me when it doesn't cause me to break down and throw a tantrum!
So really it's kind of funny how I've never managed to make it to my goal weight. Maybe I just don't like to compete against myself. Maybe I need the extra motivation of people to beat. After all, where's the fun in winning if you were the only contestant to begin with?
Needless to say, I'm trying to get over myself!
It is interesting to note that when I did manage to take off a large chunk of my weight (now, mind you, I still did not make it to goal!) it was through a test group for an informercial. Check it out - the Deante Dance program. I still whole-heartedly endorse this program. The people involved (J.B. Berns, Karen Gayle) were great, and I did lose loads of weight over the three months I was with them!
But Deante Dance was a competition! I was part of a group of 50 women or so, who were all promised that the person with the biggest percentage of weight loss over the three month period would get a prize. So I ate the food I was given, showed up to dance class three times a week, did the videos at home, and got down to just under 150 pounds in just over three months. But then the competition was over, I didn't know how to translate what I had learned into real life, and the pounds steadily crept back on from the moment it was over until June 1st, 2009 when I topped out at 192.4 and weighed in at my first Weight Watchers Meeting.
I know, Weight Watchers is not a competition. However, being physically with a group of people experiencing the same thing, have to face that scale with another person behind it, and getting prizes (key chains! Lifetime membership!) - It works in a pinch! I have been an online member on and off since 2004, losing 10 pounds or so, then slacking off and letting it come back. I realize now that the group setting and dynamic really works for me, so I'm feeling really good about coming back to Weight Watchers through meetings this time.
I attempted to organize a Biggest Loser competition in my office. Apparently only three other people around me are competitive enough to put their weight on the line. If it does happen, even on a small scale, it would be that extra bonus push that I need! But if not, I think Weight Watchers and my own personal system of rewards will fill that competitive void.
Speaking of personal rewards, I think they are super important. Because when I finally get that hot bod I've been wanting, I want to be able to flaunt it! And, I'm going to need money for that. So I have a little game I'm playing to sock some cash away for that day when I will be at goal...
Basically, it breaks down like this:
Attend meeting and get weighed in: $10
Each pound lost: $5
Each day OP (completely, meaning all GHGs met): $1
Bonus for meeting goal of the week: $10
This way the money adds up fast for good behavior, but is still a small enough amount every week that I probably won't miss it. I have a separate account for this money, so I can pull from it to purchase my rewards along the way. This is going to be a huge chunck of change most likely by the end.
Things I'm looking forward to:
182 (5%)- Getting my nose ring back
172 (10%)- New Jeans / Outfit
162- Tattoo!
152- New Jeans / Outfit
142- Probably another new Outfit
132 (Goal, and 60 pounds gone forever)- Appointment with a personal shopper and as much of a new wardrobe as I can afford! (And maybe another tattoo!)
